Using FAME Assessments to Define Measurement Goals

چکیده
Although assessment-based approaches and measurement-based approaches are often considered as competitors, they compliment each other very well. Assessments are strong in identifying improvement objectives within a relatively short time frame, but are weak in guiding the actual implementation of the proposed changes. Measurement, however, supports very well in supporting actual changes and providing feedback on the effects of these changes, but has a difficulty with selecting the right goals. In this paper, we suggest an approach in which focused assessments are used to identify improvement goals and to use goal-oriented measurement to guide the implementation of the actual changes.

The FAME Problem Domain for Distributed Planning
We introduce the Fortunate Artists Media Empire (FAME) problem domain to study approaches for solving key challenges in distributed planning such as dynamic environments, dynamic goals, uncertainty of actions and scalability. FAME is an artificial problem domain that allows us to focus on key domain-independent research issues. The FAME problem domain is focused on broadcast quality monitoring ...
متن کاملHow famous is a scientist? —Famous to those who know us
– Following a recent idea, to measure fame by the number of Google hits found in a search on the WWW, we study the relation between fame (Google hits) and merit (number of papers posted on an electronic archive) for a random group of scientists in condensed matter and statistical physics. Our findings show that fame and merit in science are linearly related, and that the probability distributio...
متن کاملBuilding and Maintaining Halls of Fame over a Database
Halls of Fame are fascinating constructs. They represent the elite of an often very large amount of entities—persons, companies, products, countries etc. Beyond their practical use as static rankings, changes to them are particularly interesting—for decision making processes, as input to common media or novel narrative science applications, or simply consumed by users. In this work, we aim at d...
متن کاملThe value of fame: preadolescent perceptions of popular media and their relationship to future aspirations.
In line with Greenfield's (2009) theory of social change and human development, current popular preadolescent TV shows suggest that fame, an individualistic goal, is an important and achievable aspiration (Uhls & Greenfield, 2011). Such messages may be particularly salient for preadolescents, ages 10-12. This study used focus groups and mixed analytic methods (qualitative and quantitative) to e...
متن کاملInvestigating the Batch and Continuous Transesterification of Linseed Oil by Using a Alkaline Heterogeneous Catalyst in a Packed Bed Reactor
Both the continuous and batch transesterification of linseed oil were examined in order to maximize the fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) yield. The continuous process was conducted in a packed bed reactor using calcium oxide as a heterogeneous catalyst. In addition, the impact of two variables, namely the molar ratio of methanol to oil and the flow rate (ml/min), on the FAME yield were stu...
